DC visit under construction roads and dykes along rivers

Mandi Bahauddin (Sher Gondal) ; Deputy Commissioner Hafiz Shaukat Ali has said that the Punjab government was spending huge public money on development schemes for convenience of the public. “Therefore, it is our responsibility to spend funds honestly and work honestly. This should be the criteria to execute development works”, he said at the end of briefing the SDO roads and contractors gave him on his visit to under construction road projects.

He directed them to accelerate working speed to complete construction of Bhikhi section of Gujrat – Salam exchange road and other schemes within their estimated schedule time. He said no low quality material would be allowed in construction of roads and any irregularity if surfaced the culprits would severely be dealt with. After inspecting work and progress going on Bhikhi section of Gujrat Salam highway, the DC inspected newly carpeted road, linking District Complex with Bhikhi via Dinga Chak.

Earlier he visited escarpments, spurs and dykes along river Chenab and Jhelum to determine their strength against floods thrust. Irrigation officers accompanied him. He directed irrigation staff to repair them where they had eroded and dismantled, on war footing.  When visiting Rasul Barrage he said spurs and dykes were not high enough to stop water overflowing them during floods, he therefore directed SDO irrigation to raise their height by one and half foot.

The DC also visited Railway Bridge over Rasul Qadirabad link canal near Shaheedanwali where banks of canal were found greatly eroded and dangerous for running trains. He directed the SDO to repair shoulders and banks of the canal to make them fit to avoid any mishap.
