The cardiac units in tertiary care hospitals further improved :

Lahore : Secretary Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education Najam Ahmad Shah has directed to prepare a comprehensive strategy to strengthen the cardiac units in tertiary care hospitals and further improvement in treatment facilities in Punjab Institute of Cardiology by reducing work load on the institution.

He directed to constitute a committee headed by Chief Executive PIC Prof. Nadeem Hayat Malik and all the heads of cardiac centers and professors of cardiac units of teaching hospitals would be the members of the committee.

He was presiding over a meeting to take steps for further improving the working of Punjab Institute of Cardiology and making the cardiac units of teaching hospitals .

Prof. Faisal Masood, Chief Executive PIC Prof. Nadeem Hayat Malik, Prof. Noor-us-Saba from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Prof. Zubair Akram from Jinnah Hospital, Additional Secretary Technical Dr. Salman Shahid and doctors from Services Hospital attended the meeting.

The meeting also discussed a proposal to set up a filter clinic for PIC in Services Hospital area adjacent to PIC so that common patients coming with minor complaints like blood pressure etc may be treated in the filter clinic and only serious patients should be referred to PIC for further management.

The meeting also discussed the issues relating to the functioning of cardiac units of teaching hospitals and their strengthening.

It was decided to constitute a committee immediately for this purpose which would submit its report for evolving a solid and efficient strategy which would be implemented on fast track to fulfill the requirements of ever increasing number of cardiac patients in the province.
