Inter-collegiate women championship begins

Lahore : The 69th Punjab University Intercollegiate Women Championship has begun at PU Women Sports Complex here on Friday.

In this regard, an inaugural ceremony was held in which Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zafar Mueen Nasir, Acting Director Sports Shamsa Hashmi, Chairman PU Department of Sports and Physical Sciences Dr Zafar Iqbal Butt, principals and sports officials of various colleges and large number of female athletes participated. As many as 29 teams of affiliated colleges are participating in the event.

Addressing the ceremony, Dr Zafar Mueen Nasir said that a healthy body was necessary for a healthy mind. He said that women were an important part of our society and were playing pivotal role in national development. He advised the female players to utilize their energies in positive activities in order to make future of the country better. He said that PU administration would extend full support to polish their talent.

Addressing the ceremony, Shamsa Hashmi said that the PU VC was paying special attention to improve sports infrastructure at PU in order to provide best facilities to the players. She said that Dr Zafar Mueen Nasir had also announced Rs one hundred thousand reward for those players who would obtain position in international competitions.

On the first day, different athletic games were held. In 200 meter race, PU Teaching Department’s Asiya Satta and Turab Zohra obtained 1st and 2nd positions respectively while Shibli College Faisalabad’s Saira Mumtaz obtained third position. Later, the VC distributed gold medals and certificates among the winning players.
