Punjab University being given green campus status: VC Prof Dr Zafar Mueen Nasir

Lahore : Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zafar Mueen Nasir has said that Punjab University was being given the status of green campus and slogan of Green Punjab University would be adopted.

He was addressing the launching ceremony of tree plantation campaign under Prime Minister’s program at Centre for Integrated Mountain & Research with other government and non-government organizations here on Thursday.

Director CIMR Dr Khalida Khan, deans of various faculties, faculty members and a large number of students were present on the occasion.

Addressing the ceremony, Dr Zafar Mueen said that if we wanted to ensure sustainable life, we must ensure sustainable environment. He urged the participants to work on new ideas to open new avenues of development. He asked the students to spread the message of environment protection to create awareness. He said that PU administration would extend all-out support in saving environment.

In her address, Dr Khalida Khan said that nothing was in isolation in environment and every natural element is connected. She said that CIMR was taking several initiatives to create awareness regarding environment.

Renowned scientist Aurangzeb Al Hafi said that we must look into the baseline if we wanted to protect environment since things are inter-dependent. President K-2 Kings Tourist Association of Pakistan Ahmed Tahir said that we must bring change in our attitude to save environment. He said that Allah had bestowed Pakistan with abundance of natural resources and beauty but we were not taking care of it.

He said that unfortunately our media was not giving appropriate attention to environment protection. Earlier, PU VC Prof Dr Zafar Mueen Nasir led a walk to create awareness to save environment and K2-Kings Tourist Association of Pakistan organized a heavy bike rally.

The participants were holding placards and banners carrying awareness slogans. The students also presented various skits featuring environment protection related messages.

The VC and others also planted sapling in the centre’s lawns.
