Taleem-e-Baalghan program to launched for prisoners :Dr. Farrukh Javed

Lahore : Minister for Literacy and Non-Formal Basic Education Punjab Dr. Farrukh Javed has said that government has initiated many program for the welfare of prisoners. Literacy department is going to launch Taleem-e-Baalghan program for prisoners all over the province. Dr. Farrukh Javed has said that this project will help to transform the prisoners into productive and useful member of the society. Literacy and NFBE Department will provide all the necessary equipment and support for the training of prisoners across the province.

The minister expressed these views in departmental meeting regarding Punjab Non Formal Education Project for prisoners. Secretary Literacy and NFBED Dr. Naveed Ahmed Chaudhry, Additional Secretary Akram Jan, Project Director Shakeel Ahmed and concerned officers also attended the meeting. The meeting was briefed that the department has successfully completed pilot project and now a comprehensive program will be launched.

The minister hoped that prisons will not become nurseries for crime anymore and we will convert them into schools for better future. Prisoners will become constructive and productive member of society after getting education. 4 months teaching courses will be started all over the province and literate prisoners will teach their fellow prisoners under the guidance of literacy department. Data from Jails of Lahore, Sahiwal, Multan, Rawalpindi, Bahawalpur, DG Khan and Mianwali has been collected and work ongoing on remaining prisons.

Minister Literacy & NFBED Dr. Farrukh Javed instructed Secretary Literacy and Inspector general Prisons to finalize the SOPs for launching the program .

It is pertinent to mention here that literacy department is working on various projects for the improvement of the society. More than 4 lakh out of school children are being given primary education under literacy department’s project. A total of 1, 33,844 young and old people are getting education and vocational training all over Punjab in 6,860 ALCs and NFEA centers. More than one million illiterate people given basic education and are taught different skills.

Provincial Minister for Literacy & NFBED Dr. Farrukh Javed has now directed to teach millions of prisoners in the prisons of Punjab to transform them into constructive part of society.
