The Supreme Court acquits three death-row convicts after 15 years

Mandi Bahauddin: Two death convict brothers Falak Sher and Qamar Abbas languishing in jail for last 15 years have been acquitted in murder case by the Supreme Court. In 2001 Falak Sher, Qamar Abbas and their three brothers’ residents of Village Rerhrka Bala were implicated in a double murder case. On trial the Sessions Judge Mandi Bahauddin awarded them death sentence.

The convicts filed appeal in High Court Lahore. In 2008, on hearing the appeal the LHC declared three brothers innocent but maintained the punishment of Falak Sher and Qamar Abbas. These two convicts went in appeal to Supreme Court against the verdict of the High Court and on hearing; the SC acquitted both the convicts of murder.

Fifteen days ago the SC acquitted one Anar of Varyam village, a death-row convict. After his appeal against judgment of Sessions Judge Mandi Bahauddin was turned down by LHC, the convict filed appeal to the SC, and after hearing the appeal; the SC honorably acquitted the convict. He spent 11 years in jail.
