The rulers wanted to stifle every voice against themselves : Siraj ul Haq

siraj-ul-haqLahore : Ameer, Jamaat e Islami, Pakistan, Senator Sirajul Haq, has strongly condemned the government steps against the media and said the rulers wanted to stifle every voice against  themselves.

He was addressing the journalists rally protesting against the closure of the TV channels News One,  Sachh News and 92 News at the Mall while demonstrating complete solidarity with the media on the issue. He demanded immediate restoration of these news channels as a token of respect for the freedom of the press.

Sirajul Haq said that the media was the ears, eyes and tongue of the nation and the closure of the TV channels was tantamount to blindfolding the nation’s eyes and chopping off its tongue. The government was rendering thousands of workers in the media. He said the media had always voiced the grievances of the oppressed and the poor sections in the society.

He said that the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif seemed to have forgotten the time when his party workers had abandoned him but the media had stood by him and become his voice. He said that the attitude of the political rulers brought up by dictators was far from democratic.

The JI chief said that punishing the entire channel for the wrong done by a single worker was unjustified. He said if these news channels were not restored and threats t o others were not stopped, the protest against the rulers would intensify.

Sirajul Haq said that Mian Brothers who had faced prolonged period of distress and now were ruling in the centre and in the Punjab, were not expected to go to such extent against  the media which had kept them alive when all others had abandoned them.

He called upon the government to withdraw the FIR that had been got registered by a minister against  the 92 News channel and tender an apology on this score.

Editor in Chief of the New News channel, Ch. Abdur Rahman, expressed his gratitude to the JI chief for showing solidarity with the protesting media men.

Meanwhile ; Sirajul Haq, has said that Advisor for Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz’s visit to India was ill timed and ill-advised in the prevailing tense situation and had brought disgrace instead of good name to the country.

Addressing the central leaders of the party at Mansoora on Monday, he said that New Delhi’s attitude towards this country was of hatred and deceit. India was not willing to include the Kashmir issue in the talks agenda yet the Pakistani rulers were dying for friendship with India. Unprovoked shelling from India had been continuing for weeks, killing dozens of our citizens. Moreover, he said, Afghanistan was a neighbor and an old friend of Pakistan but India was arousing that country against Pakistan in a bid to achieve her nefarious agenda.  He said that preventing  the Foreign Advisor from talking to the media was sheer Bunya mentality.

Sirajul Haq said that unfortunately, the goal of the country’s foreign policy still remained undecided. There had never been an open debate in the parliament on relations with India and the overall foreign policy.

“Our Foreign Policy is based on sudden happenings and tragedies and the government has never thought of a durable and strong foreign policy”, he said, adding : Had the foreign policy been any priority  of the rulers, a full time Foreign Minister would have been appointed since long.”
