PMDC admission policy would be followed strictly in Punjab : Najam Ahmed Shah

najam-ahmed-shahLahore : Secretary Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education Punjab, Najam Ahmed Shah has said that Pakistan Medical & Dental Council’s admission policy would be followed in the admission of Private Medical & Dental Colleges on transparent and merit basis under the aegis of University of Health Sciences Lahore.

In this connection, Provincial Admission Committee would also intimate PMDC regarding the violation of rules and regulations by few private medical and dental colleges for taking necessary action according to the law.

He said this while addressing an urgent press conference regarding the admission policy for private medical & dental colleges, at University of Health Sciences, here today.

Representative of PMDC Dr. Amir Bandesha and Pro-Vice Chancellor UHS Prof. Junaid Sarfraz Khan were also present.

Najam Ahmed Shah informed the media persons that a meeting of Provincial Admission Committee held at UHS today which was attended by all the members.

The meeting discussed in detail and reviewed the implementation on admission policy of 2016 of PMDC for private medical & dental colleges. He said that Provincial Admission Committee condemned such medical & dental colleges who trying to misguide the students and their parents and openly violating the merit policy which is creating a bad name for medical profession. He said that the admission committee is also sending its recommendations to PMDC for taking legal action against such colleges.

Najam Ahmed Shah further informed that in this connection, Lahore High Court has issued an interim order on 11th November, which was amended by the honourable Court on November 18 and suspended its previous order from the previous date and clarified that the order would be applicable only on such students who had appeared in SAT-II.

Pro-Vice Chancellor UHS Prof. Junaid Sarfraz Khan informed that according to the new admission policy of PMDC, so far 6544 students have applied for the admission in private medical & dental colleges. He said that the date of depositing admission forms has been extended upto 22nd November to facilitate such students who want to apply for the admission.

Dr. Amir Bandesha informed that 146th meeting of PMDC Council was held on 19th November in Islamabad in which the Punjab government’s initiatives taken for the admission in medical and dental colleges were appreciated by the Council. He said that PMDC has informed all the medical universities/colleges that no admission against the merit policy would be acceptable and UHS as well as PMDC would not register such admissions.

Moreover, Provincial Admission committee has asked the parents and students that they should not approach any private medical and dental college for the admission and contact with UHS, Nishtar Medical College Multan and Rawalpindi Medical College for depositing admission forms according to the central admission policy.

These admission forms can be downloaded from website of University of Health Sciences www.uhs.edu.pk. Prof. Junaid Sarfraz Khan disclosed that merit list for private medical and dental colleges would be displayed on 1stDecember 2016.
