Sargodha will see women on wheel on 6th September, 2016

PAKISTAN-WOMEN-RIGHTS-BIKESLahore : Chief Minister’s Special Monitoring Unit (Law & Order) will organize the ceremony of its Women-on-Wheels (WoW) campaign in Sargodha followed by a Motorcycle rally at ‘Police Lines’on Tuesday, 6th September, 2016. 30 representatives out of the 100 women who have received training at Sargodha will demonstrate their motorcycle skills and will be awarded certificates for the successful completion of their training.

SMU’s WoW campaign was initiated on the directions of Chief Minister Punjab as a mean to promote female inclusion in the public space. The rally is being organized in collaboration with City Traffic Police , City District Government Sargodha and Honda.

Salman Sufi, Senior Member SMU (Law & Order) told that the WoW initiative aims to provide free motorcycle trainings to women to make them independent. This would facilitate the day-to-day functions of commuting to school and work as well as aiding household management.

The event at Police Lines Sargodha will be attended by Minister Women Development, Minister Population Welfare and notable MPAs including Ms. Farhana Afzal, Ms.Tamkeen Niazi, Ms. Tahia Noon and D.C.O and R.P.O Multan. Members of the civil society, including representatives from Punjab Commission for the Status of Women and Aurat Foundation will also present at the event.

Women-on-Wheels was launched in Sargodha earlier this year in May. The campaign has been initiated in Lahore, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Multan and aims to spread out to all 36 districts of Punjab.
