YDA strike call could not attract Doctors : Secretary Health Punjab

yda protest outside punjab assembly1Lahore : Strike call by a faction of young doctors against the transparent and merit based online induction policy for postgraduate doctors under Punjab Residency Programme in the teaching and specialized healthcare hospitals has failed as the majority of doctors did not pay any heed to their call and continue providing medical treatment to the patients in the outpatient department of the hospitals.

A spokesman of Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education Department Punjab said that on average the turnout of patients in OPDs of teaching hospitals was almost same on July 21.

According to the data collected from different hospitals 4413 patients visited OPD of Bahawal Victoria Hospital Bahawalpur, 1125 patients in DHQ Hospital Dera Ghazi Khan, 3390 patients in the OPD of Allied Hospital Faisalabad, 1488 patients visited PIC Lahore, 2072 patients in Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, 1682 patients in Mayo Hospital, 1766 patients in Services Hospital, 2180 patients in Jinnah Hospital, 1744 patients in Government Teaching Hospital Shahdara, 2135 patients in Government Nawaz Sharif Yakki Gate Hospital, 468 patients in Lady Aitchison Hospital, 2500 patients in Children Hospital Lahore, 917 patients in LGH, 1800 patients in Benazir Bhutto Hospital Rawalpindi, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi Institute of Cardiology Multan 1460 patients, Government Mian Munshi Hospital 1385 patients and 1214 patients visited OPD of Faisalabad Institute of Cardiology.

The spokesman further said that the almost same situation was in the other teaching hospitals and no extraordinary impact of YDAs strike call was observed in these hospitals.

The spokesman further said that the turnout of the patients in the hospitals reflects that the majority of doctors believe in a system based on transparency and merit and they are in support of online PG induction policy which should be free of any interference, pressure or nepotism so that eligible and deserving candidates could get chance to come forward purely on merit base.
