CS Punjab notice registration of particulars of buyers at Ramzan Bazars

CS Punjab Capt (R) Zahid Saeed ,Shumail Ahmad KhawajaLahore: Provincial Minister for Food Bilal Yasin has said that Punjab government has extended more relief to the citizens under Ramadan Package this year through 15 percent subsidy on the wholesale market rates of pulses, fruits and vegetables compared to 12 percent subsidy given on these items last year. He said that the sale of subsidized flour and sugar in Ramadan bazaars and open market is also higher this year which is a proof of the success of Ramadan Package.

Provincial Minister for Food Bilal Yasin during a monitoring meeting of Ramadan Package at Civil Secretariat, today said that flour and sugar are available in abundance in 318 Ramadan bazaars set up in the province. He directed district administrations to ensure immediate supply of flour and sugar for last ten days in Ramadan bazaars as their demand will rise before Eid. He said that the staff of district administrations should prepare 2kg packets of sugar in maximum number so that the fasting people do not have to stand in long queues for the purchase of this item.

Chief Secretary Punjab Capt. (R) Zahid Saeed took notice of the complaint that the people have to get their particulars registered in Ramadan bazaars of Faisalabad and Sumandri for the purchase of sugar.

He said that 9452 metric ton sugar has so far been sold on concessionary rate in Ramadan bazaars of the province. He said that government has an equal quantity of sugar in its stock and arrangements have been made for its supply to districts.

The meeting was informed that 6710 shopkeepers involved in overcharging have been arrested in Punjab this year. A fine of Rs. 43408256 has been imposed on traders, retailers, fruit merchants and others for overcharging, short weighing and other offences.

Similarly, 4769 FIRs have been got registered against traders during the first 20 days of Ramadan for overcharging. Moreover, 5000 shops and stalls have been inspected in open market and Ramadan bazaars during this period. Secretary Food Punjab Dr. Pervaiz Ahmed Khan, Secretary Industry Khalid Sher Dil, Secretary I&C Farasat Iqbal, Secretary Information & Culture Punjab Raja Jahangir Anwar, Special Secretary Agri Marketing Dr. Farah Masood, Special Secretary Chief Minister’s Inspection Team Fazal Abbas and senior officers of concerned departments attended the meeting.
