Pre-Ramadan price hike linked to poor governance : UBG

SM Munir,Abdul Ruaf Alam,Zubair TufailLahore: The United Business Group (UBG) of FPCCI on Wednesday asked the government to take note of the pre-Ramadan price hike across the country and take action against profiteers and hoarders.

The prices of almost all the commodities of daily use have been increased raising questions about the system of governance, said Zubair Tufail, Secretary General UBG.

In a statement issued here today, he said that prices of items of daily use continue to rise indicating that district administration in many cities seems to be least concerned about the plight of masses.

He said that prices are skyrocketing because profiteers and hoarders are milking masses on will while provincial governments seems helpless to take any corrective action.

Artificial shortage of edibles should not be tolerated as it is against the basic rights of the masses already reeling under inflation, he added.

Zubair Tufail said that the prices of oil in the international market are rising due to which Ogra has asked the government to increase prices of petroleum prices by 11.8 percent which was to open flood gate for inflation.

He lauded the decision of Finance Minister Ishaq Dar for rejecting summary of Ogra to keep prices on the current level which is a pro-masses stance.
