Overloading vehicles increase the pressure on the suspension of traffic flow : DIG Mirza Faran Baig

Lahore: Overloading vehicles do not only increase the pressure on the suspension and other vehicles but also makes it much difficult to steer the vehicles safely in challenging road conditions. This is said by Motorway Police , Central Zone DIG Mirza Faran Baig while observing NH&MP ongoing comprehensive campaign against overloading, off loaded extra weight from vehicle to permissible per axle weight under National Highway Safety Ordinance 2000 beside imposing heavy fine to these vehicles. .

DIG Mirza Faran Baig said the will be less stable, difficult to steer and take longer to stop.Vehicles react differently when the maximum weights which they are designed to carry are exceeded. The drivers control and operating space in the overloaded vehicles is diminished,escalating the chances for an accident, he added.

DIG Mirza Faran Baig expressed his satisfaction upon the progress of the campaign and directed the officers to continue their hard work for considerable reduction in the ratio of overloading.

The officers have been asked to adopt zero tolerance policy against overloading in order to save the national asset in the form of national highways. DIG Mirza Faran Baig said economic growth demands an adequate transport infrastructure but overloaded vehicles, especially freight vehicles,carrying extra load were damaging our roads, impacting negatively on economic growth of the country.

The DIG directed the officers to make all out efforts to make this campaign successful as damage to roads owing to overloading leads to higher maintenance and repair costs and shortens life of a road which burdens the state and law-abiding commuters who ultimately pay its cost.
