PU Law College faculty members demand immediate removal of Dr Mujahid Kamran

PU vc dr Mujahid KamranLahore: Punjab University Syndicate members and teachers have appealed Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Governor/Chancellor Malik Muhammad Rafique Rajwana to stop interim Vice Chancellor Mujahid Kamran from continuing illegal practices at the university.

Addressing a press conference at Lahore Press Club on Tuesday, Syndicate members including Javed Sami, Shumaila Gull and other faculty members said Kamran had a look after charge under which he could only perform routine activities.

“Unlawfully appointed VC who is overage now, is taking policy decisions and appointing people in violation of the law on contract. He is going to hold Senate Elections in violation of the university rules. Only a full-time permanent VC can hold Senate election. There is no permanent Registrar in the university, no Treasure and no regular VC. Under no provisions Senate election can be held in this situation,” said Samee Uzair, Assistant Professor at University Law College addressing the press conference.

“The current meeting of Finance and Planning Committee approved budgets of tens of millions of rupees which was completely illegal. Deputy Secretary and Section Officer attended this meeting who are not even authorized to attend these meetings. Only one member present in the meeting Ambreen Javed was legal member. One of the members wrote a letter and refused to attend this meeting saying it was illegal,” said Javed Samil, PU Syndicate member at the press conference.

“Syndicate is incomplete currently. Pro-VC, two elected members of Senate, principals of the affiliated college, one woman eminent person and VC are not in Syndicate. It is short of six members. Senate elections is being announced in haste just to gain numerical superiority in the Syndicate,” the teachers said.

They said that Election Commission announced for holding Senate Election is itself contesting the election. “Additional Registrar Kamran Abid is part of Election Commission and he himself  is contesting for Senate. CM and Governor should take the notice of it and Senate election shouldn’t be allowed to be held, and Mujahid Kamran be removed immediately for smooth running of University matters and and in legal manner” they said.

PU Law College faculty members Dr Shahbaz Cheema, Iftikhar Tarar and others participated in the press conference.
