Pakistan’s first children eye hospital is a gift to the society :President Mamnoon Hussain

Lahore: President Mamnoon Hussain on Wednesday said country’s first children eye hospital is a gift to the society which will play a leading role in combating menace of blindness among children in the country.

The hospital will not only cater for the people of Pakistan but those from regional countries would also be able to get help of the latest facility, he said.

President Mamnoon Hussain said this after performing ground-breaking ceremony of country’s first children eye hospital being constructed by Al-Shifa Trust at the cost of one billion rupees.

He said that government is focusing on promoting health services across the country and health card scheme is one of the initiatives.

We are bringing positive change in the health sector which will result in provision of quality services to all the people, he said, adding that government and private sector can jointly bring a very good change in lesser time in this critical sector.

The president said that country badly needed a hospital to save sights of newly born babies which is a very laudable initiative.

Speaking at the occasion, President Al-Shifa Trust Lt. Gen (Retd) Hamid Javed said that this hospital is part of the vision of the founder president of the trust Gen Jahandad Khan (Late) where six thousand children will get free treatment on annual basis.

He said that incidence of blindness was becoming very prevalent in country which prompted the decision to establish a state-of-the-art health facility.

The hospital would be completed in two years where twenty five highly qualified doctors backed by skilled technicians would be available to serve the humanity.

He called upon the people to follow the steps of Al-Shifa Trust to serve the suffering humanity. The ceremony was attended by globally admired doctors, experts, social workers, donors and others. The president also gave away shields to the staff of the trust for outstanding performance.

On this occasion President AFNA (Al-Shifa Foundation for North America) Mr Tahir Zafar announced that twenty percent of the cost of hospital will be shared by AFNA.
