30 birds died due to ND Virus in Safari Zoo Park

ivory billed woodpeckerLahore: Atleast 30 birds died due to ND Virus in ivory of birds in Safari Zoo Park.The birds and animals were suffering from ND Virus due to cold in night and severe heat in day. DG Wildlife & Parks Punjab Khalid Ayaz Khan has constituted a 4-member inquiry committee regarding deaths of birds in Safari Zoo Park.

The Spokesman said that Director Lahore Zoo Shafqat Ali will be Chairman of this committee while Prof. Dr. Asim Haider of University of Veterinary Sciences, Veterinary Officer Lahore Zoo Dr. Babar Saleem and Veterinary Officer Jallo Wildlife Park Dr. Muhammad Rizwan will be its members. The committee will formulate its report within 3 days and submit it to DG Wildlife.

Director General Wildlife & Parks has directed in-charges of zoos,wildlife parks and safari zoo parks of the province to ensure medical examination and vaccination of animals and birds in their respective parks and take all precautionary measures for their protection. The department has issued a circular on emergent basis in this regard.

The notification issued for protection of ND Virus has been sent through fax, e-mail and whatsapp to all concerned in-charges on emergent basis and its receipt has been confirmed.
