“Water is crucially important for the socio-economic development of Pakistan:Zakia Shahnawaz

Begum Zakia ShahnawazLahore: Provincial Minister for Environment Protection Begum Zakia Shahnawaz has said that development of country and growth of agriculture depends on Water Resources because no country can achieve progress without water. While speaking at a ceremony held at PILAC on International Water Day.

While sharing her thoughts she expressed, “Water is crucially important for the socio-economic sustenance and development of any country especially for Pakistan that has agriculture based economy. She also mentioned that water resources of the country are subject to all kinds of quantitative and qualitative issues, which need to be addressed on priority basis.”

Eminent speakers from different institutions addressed the audience and highlighted the importance of water. Dr. Kausar Jamal Cheema, Dean Faculty of Natural Sciences, Department of Environmental Sciences, Lahore College for Women University, Dr. Zaheer, Chief Technical Officer Punjab Saaf Pani Company and Adnan Adil gave detailed presentation regarding water conservation, water management and emphasized that how enough quantity and quality of water can change workers lives and livelihoods in context of better water- better jobs.

Dr. Javaid, Director Irrigation and Raees Ahmad, Director General Water Management Punjab further highlighted the importance of water in irrigation and agriculture sector for sustainable development.

At the end, Dr. Javed Iqbal, Director General EPA Punjab and Dr. Iqbal Muhammad Chohan Secretary, EPD concluded the session with the remarks that it is the responsibility of every citizen to play its part in water conservation and water management activities and reiterated that water sector has a large potential of investment and job opportunities in Punjab.
