Rana Mashhood announces Punjab Youth Festival schedule amid NAB inquiry

Rana Mashhood AhmadLahore: Punjab Minister for Sports Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan has reiterated that there is no threat to next Punjab Youth Festival (PYF) and we are making sound preparations for the grand event; he was addressing a press conference regarding upcoming Pakistan Day Punjab Snooker Championship at National Hockey Stadium on Saturday.It would be pertinent to mention here that NAB is doing inquiry about corruption in Punjab Youth Festival.

Rana Mashhood said the audit of Punjab Youth Festival has already been completed and all the Guinness World Records established in Punjab Youth Festival are intact and can be checked anywhere. “Sports Board Punjab, under the leadership of Director General Sports Punjab Usman Anwar has done wonderful endeavors for the holding of national and international events in Pakistan which is no doubt a great achievement,” he added.

The minister announced that Punjab govt has decided to celebrate Pakistan Day in a befitting manner. “Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has constituted a committee to hold Pakistan Day events smoothly. We are going to arrange a grand marathon, stage dramas, book fair and many more events on this historic occasion,” he elaborated.

He said Pakistan Day Punjab Snooker Championship will be played from March 21 to April 8, 2016 in various cities of Punjab under the auspices of Punjab Association of Snooker Club Owners (PASCO).

Rana Mashhood informed that the first phase of championship will be played simultaneously in nine divisions of Punjab province in which hundreds of players will show their snooker skills. “After the divisional level, top 64 players will be selected to play at Punjab level,” he informed.

He said the Pakistan Day Punjab Snooker Championship will play a great role in the promotion of game of snooker. “It is key step on the part of Punjab govt and Sports Board Punjab to provide suitable platform to talented snooker players. The players from remote areas will also get an appropriate opportunity through this championship,” he added.

Regarding prize money, he informed that the winner of the Pakistan Day Punjab Snooker Championship will be awarded Rs 100,000 while runner-up and 3rd position holder will get Rs 50,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively. Rs 10,000 will be given to a player with highest break in the championship.

Rana Mashhood said the players who will score a break of 147 at Punjab level competition, will be sent to World Snooker Academy England for month-long training.
