68th intercollegiate girls championship begins

68th intercollegiate girls championship beginsLahore: The two-day 68th intercollegiate girls championship being organized by Punjab University Department of Sports has begin here at Punjab Hockey Stadium on Tuesday. Female athletes from 30 girls colleges are participating in the championship in which 21 events would be held.

Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran, Director Sports Shamsa Hashmi, Director Students Affairs Shahid Gul, Deputy Director Zubair Akram, other officials and players were present on the occasion.

Addressing the ceremony, Dr Mujahid Kamran said that game is a good teacher which taught the art of winning and losing. He said that a large number of female athletes were participating in the event which was a good omen. In 100 meters race competition, Punjab University Teaching Department’s Turab clinched first position and was declared the fastest athlete for the year 2016.

PU Teaching Department’s Hameeza Riaz got second position while Shibli College Faisalabad’s Saira Mukhtar obtained third position. Later, Dr Mujahid Kamran awarded medals to the winners and handed over a cheque of Rs two hundred thousand to Rukhsana Rashid Hockey Academy under club sponsorship program initiated by the PU Sports Department.

Various competitions of the championship would continue today. While the closing ceremony of 68th intercollegiate girls championship will be held on Wednesday (today) at 1pm at Punjab Stadium in which Director General Sports Division HEC Islamabad Farman Ullah Anjum will be the chief guest.
