Dr Umar Saif stands among 500 most influential Muslims of the world

Umar-SaifLahore: Chairman Punjab IT Board (PITB) and Vice Chancellor of Information Technology University (ITU)  Lahore, Dr Umar Saif  has been declared one of the top 500 most influential Muslims across the globe. His name is picked from amongst 1.7 billion Muslims of the world along with Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan and Dr. Atta-ur-Rehman who have contributed significantly in the field of technology. Earlier Dr. Saif has also been awarded Sitar-e-Imtiaz by the Government of Pakistan last year on behalf of his remarkable services rendered for e-governance and smart monitoring in Pakistan. Present honour is given by the renowned journal “The 500 Most Influential Muslims (http://themuslim500.com).”  in its 2016 edition being published by the Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Centre in Amman, Jordan. The journal pays homage to Dr. Umar Saif as “An award-winning scientist, entrepreneur, innovator, and a tech tycoon, Dr. Saif studied at Cambridge and was a core member of the $50 million

Project Oxygen at MIT. He created the first start-up incubators in Pakistan called the ‘Saif Centre of Innovation’ and is the founding Vice Chancellor of the Information Technology University Punjab and is one of the main forces behind the IT ecosystem in Pakistan. The MIT Technology Review named Saif among its list of the 35 “World’s Top Young Innovators for the year 2011” and he was named: “Young Global Leader” by the World Economic Forum in 2010. He is the recipient of many other awards.”

Dr. Saif attributes his new global honour to the blessings of Almighty Allah and kind prayers of his parent. He said “it is a pride for the whole Pakistani nation that our work in technology is being recognized globally. We should work hard to attain the lost glorious past of Muslim Scientists who provided a broad base to the modern science that time when Europe was going through dark ages.” He said that Pakistan occupies a prominent place in the field of science and technology among the Muslim countries and we’ll use its tech potential in solving day to day problems of the common citizen. He said “the Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has always been a staunch supporter of education, technology and modern science. It is due to his vibrant leadership, strong support and deliberate determination that Punjab has become a tech icon throughout the world.”
