A delegation of UNICEF calls on Punjab Minister for Housing Malik Tanvir Aslam

Lahore: Provincial Minister for Housing & Urban Development, Communication & Works Malik Tanvir Aslam Awan has said that Punjab government is completing various projects of sanitation besides provision of potable water to the citizens with the cooperation of UNICEF and other international development agencies.

This was stated by him during a meeting with a delegation of UNICEF led by its WASH Programme Chief Timothy Grieve in his chamber, here today. High ranking officers of Public Health Engineering were also present on this occasion.

The Provincial Minister said that an agreement has been signed between Punjab government and UNICEF under WASH Sector Development Plan 2014-24 which will not only help understand the problems being faced by the people in connection with drainage and sanitation but also play a vital role in completion of various ongoing development projects.

Malik Tanvir Aslam said that Saaf Pani Company has been set up for the provision of clean drinking water to the people which is speedily executing various projects in all districts of the province after conducting survey. He said that work is being carried out speedily on community development regarding drainage and sanitation and positive results could be achieved by collective efforts.

The Minister said that setting up of coordination committees is utmost necessary for coordinated liaison and for this purpose, district governments are also being made part of this system. He thanked the delegation and Timothy Grieve for pointing out various problems of drainage and sanitation as well as their cooperation.

Timothy Grieve briefed the Minister regarding their visit to various tehsils of Bahawalpur and lauded the various ongoing projects of drainage and sanitation. He said that ongoing development projects for the provision of clean drinking water are the role model for other provinces.
