Begum Kalsoom Nawaz sworns in as a chief guide of Pakistan Girl Guides Association

Begum Kalsoom NawazLahore: Investiture Ceremony of Begum Kalsoom Nawaz as the Chief Guide of Pakistan Girl Guides Association was held at Prime Minister’s House Islamabad on 14th January, 2016.
Senator Nuzhat Sadiq, National Commissioner Pakistan Girl Guides Association administered the oath, and in her welcome address, expressed gratitude to Begum Kalsoom Nawaz Sharif for becoming a part of the Association.
In her address to the Guides the Chief Guide Begum Kalsoom Nawaz Sharif appreciated the spirit of Guiding which encourages the Girl Guides to work for the betterment of people. She emphasized upon Guides to have a belief in them.
On her arrival in the auditorium a Guard of honor was given to the Chief Guide by a group of Guides. A National Song was presented by Special Guides of Pakistan Society for rehabilitation of disabled Lahore which was much appreciated by the Chief Guide Begum Kalsoom Nawaz. She met the special Guides and appreciated them individually.
Senator Nuzhat Sadiq in her welcome address informed that Pakistan Girl Guides Association was formed by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah on 29th December 1947 and it became member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) in 1948. Its membership is 117,692 in the provinces of Baluchistan, Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtoonkhwah, Islamabad Capital Territory, Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Jammu & Kashmir.
Program of Pakistan Girl Guides Association and the method in which it is conducted is a strong point of this organization. The skills are imparted to the members through activity based experiences where they realize their potential. Opportunities are then provided to develop it thus building a belief in self. It gives them confidence and assurance that they can set goals and are capable to achieve them.
We can proudly say that we are making a difference not only in the lives of youth but also through them to their families and the communities thus making this world a better place to live in.
Pakistan Girl Guides Association is the largest voluntary organization working for the welfare of the girls and young women in Pakistan and has membership of 117, 692. It reaches the far-flung areas of Pakistan and has branches in KP, Baluchistan, Punjab, Sindh, Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT), Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK), and Gilgit Baltistan.
PGGA (Pakistan Girl Guides Association) runs programs for the girls between the ages of 6 to 21 years which has three pronged effect. It focuses on Empowerment of the girl, Community service and Emergency preparedness.
The Association carries out awareness campaigns on environmental protection, tree plantation, conservation of forests, pollution control, entrepreneurship development for girls and women, prevention of drug addiction, promoting child rights, educational and health issues.
The Guides serve during emergencies and have rendered their services in 2005 and 2008 earthquakes in KP/ Azad Kashmir and Balochistan
and to the IDPs of Swat, Dir & Buneer during 2009.
Guides have also provided relief to the IDPs of Waziristan, earthquake victims of Nepal, Heat Stroke victims in Karachi and flood affected people of D.G.Khan in 2015.
