Inter-Provincial Athletics Championship begins

Lahore: The Under-16 Girls and Under-17 Boys Inter-Provincial Athletics Championship got underway at Punjab Stadium on Saturday.

Director Sports Board Punjab Jalil Chohan was the chief guest on this occasion. He inaugurated the championship in a colourful opening ceremony. The chief guest was introduced to all participating teams. The championship is being organized under the banner of Sports Board Punjab (SBP).

The teams from Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan, Azad Kashmir and Islamabad are taking part in the 3-day championship.

Punjab girls drew first blood winning all four events contested on the first day. On the boys’ side, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab athletes demonstrated wonderful performance clinching two titles each on Saturday.

Sports Board Punjab’s female athletes Hamna Muneer (high jump), Saira Khalid (javelin throw), Mahnoor Dogar (shot put) and Tehreem Alam (800m race) outplayed their opponents in their respective competitions quite comfortably.

Results of girls’ events:

High jump: Hamna Muneer (Pb) 1.30m, Zuhra Banduqwala (Snd) 1.27m Saira Khalid (Pb) 1.13m.

Javelin throw: Saira Khalid (Pb) 25.45, Mahnoor Dogar (Pb) 25.42, Laraib Zuhra (Ismbd) 24.36.

Shot put: Mahnoor Dogar (Pb) 8.43, Hina Akbar 7.04, Laraib Zuhra (Ismbd) 6.79.

800m race: Tehreem Alam (Pb), Raima Kiran (Pb), Reena Adil (Snd).

Results of boys’ events:

High jump: M Zeeshan (Pb) 1.80m, Abdul Moeed (Snd) 1.60m, Paaris Ahmed (KP) 1.55m.

Javelin throw: Paaris Ahmed (KP) 55.34, Shahab Khan (KP) 54.28, M Asad Iqbal (Pb) 51.17.

Shot put: Haseeb Ullah (KP) 15.20m, Raees Younis (Pb) 15.15m, Sibghatullah 15.07.

1500m: Danish Nawaz (Pb), Adil Sahotra (Pb), Faras John (KP).
