The rangers should be call back from Karachi:Legal Experts

former District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Hussain Maken advocateMandi Bahauddin(Sher Gondal) : Legal fraternity is of the opinion that deployment of rangers in Karachi or elsewhere in the country should be discontinued; former District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Hussain Maken advocate said here the other day while talking to media persons.

He said rangers are responsible for watching the borders and they are not trained in police duties or maintaining law and order in cities. Their deployment not only increase expenditure of public funds but also creates ill feelings in provincial governments and police.

Rangers or army can be called in emergent cases to supplement police efforts in emergent cases but it should be for short period. He said rangers had been present in Karachi since 1986 but they have not been able to root out sectarianism or other crimes permanently. Now the situation has reached a point where Sindh government was opposing rangers’ deployment and desires to make police responsible exclusively, to deal with law and order situation. Therefore there is no legal justification left for continuing deployment of rangers in Karachi.

He further said similar cases of corruption and crime have been taking place in Punjab but government has not deployed rangers.  The other lawyers expressed similar views and demanded of the government not to prolong deployment of rangers in Karachi. Instead police should be trained and provided modern weapons and equipment to deal with law and order situations.
