16-day campaign launched against gender-based violence: Hameeda Waheed

Lahore: Punjab Minister for Women Development Hameeda Waheed-ud-Din and Chairperson Provincial Commission on Status of Women Fauzia Waqar have said that 16-day campaign against gender-based violence has been launched under which various programmes will be arranged for the protection of women rights and curbing violence against women.

They were addressing a press conference in connection with International Day against Gender-based Violence arranged with the cooperation of White Ribbon at Press Club here today.

Hameeda Waheed-ud-Din and Fauzia Waqar said that during the 16-day awareness campaign the measures taken by the government regarding controlling of underage marriage, ensuring share of women in heritance, filling of all columns of Nikah Nama and curbing of gender-based violence will be highlighted.

They said that the role of women in the society and the steps taken for solution of their problems will be publicized on electronic, print as well as social media. They said that no society can progress without empowerment of women.

Member Provincial Assembly Dr. Farzana Nazir and Chief Executive White Ribbon also spoke on the occasion.
