Wapda wins the Second National Pentathlon Championship

Lahore: Wapda, with 110 points, won the title of Second National Pentathlon Championship at Punjab Stadium on Monday. The championship was organised under the aegis of Sports Board Punjab (SBP).

Punjab grabbed second position with 75 points in swimming, shooting and running competitions followed by Railway which finished third with 65 points. Islamabad and Balochistan finished last with 64 points each. Over 30 players from Punjab, Wapda, Railway, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhawa, Islamabad, Balochistan, Azad Kashmir and FATA took part in the championship.

President Pakistan Modern Pentathlon Federation Riaz Fatiana, who was also chief guest on this occasion, distributed prizes among the prominent performers of the championship at the closing ceremony.

Addressing the closing ceremony, Riaz Fatiana said the credit of popularity of pentathlon in a short span of time went to Sports Board Punjab. “Director General Sports Punjab Usman Anwar had a great role in the swift fame of this new game in Pakistan,” he added. Syed Tahir Fawad Shah, Senior Vice-President PMPF, General Secretary Zahoor Ahmed and international coach Bernard Moss were also present on this occasion.
