Ex-servicemen hold a ceremony to celebrate Allama Iqbal’s 138th birthday

Allama-IqbalMandi Bahauddin(Sher Gondal) : Ex-servicemen held a ceremony under aegis of Pakistan Ex-Servicemen Society here at District PESS office to celebrate Allama Doctor Muhammad Iqbal’s 138th birthday. Dozens of ex-servicemen including PESS office bearers participated in the ceremony. Speaking on the occasion President Kisan Wing PESS Subedar Zaman Ranjha said Allama was freedom lover and could not tolerate Muslims of subcontinent being treated as slave by British.

He was of the view Hindu would dominate Muslims and deprive them of basic rights, after the British rule is over. He said Allama was the exponent of “two nation theory” and basing this he conceived the idea of separate home land for Muslims which later was given name of Pakistan on the recommendation Ch Rahmat.Gujar. Capt Aslam spread light on his life and education.

He said poetry of Allama was almost based on teachings of Islam. Allama believed in fighting for the truth and rights. He motivated Muslims with his poetry that joined Muslim League.

He also motivated Quad e Azam to join ML for leading struggle to liberate Muslims from the yoke of foreigners. All these efforts led to creation of Pakistan, he concluded. Subedar Major Muhammad Bashir addressing the ceremony said that we over the passage of time had distanced away from the teachings of Allama Iqbal and Quad e Azam and as result our strength is decreasing.

He called upon ex-servicemen follow Iqbal philosophy of Shaheen to continue their struggle for maintaining integrity of the country and freedom of nation. He said if we remained united then we are a great power to defend our freedom and homeland.
