LCCI arranges “International Seminar on Business Opportunities in Punjab”

Pervaiz MalikLahore: With a purpose to take the private sector of Punjab on board and to brief the local business community about the upcoming “International Seminar on Business Opportunities in Punjab”, Punjab Board of Investment and Trade (PBIT) organized a seminar at Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) on October 15, 2015.

Pervaiz Malik, Member National Assembly was the chief guest of the seminar. Representatives of the leading companies, Chambers of Commerce and concerned Government departments were also in attendance. Newly appointed president LCCI, Mr. Sheikh Muhammad Arshad, spoke about the importance of private sector in the economy of the country and the potential of foreign investment. He said “private sector would be the true beneficiary of CPEC and other investment inflows expected in the near future”.

The Chief Executive Officer PBIT, Habib ur Rehman Gillani, briefed the participants about the scope, objectives, and the expected outcomes of the International Seminar on Business Opportunities in Punjab being held on November 6-7 at Pearl Continental Hotel, Lahore. He highlighted the sectors in focus i.e. Infrastructure, Energy, Mines & Minerals, Housing, Transport and said “against the backdrop of CPEC, it is an opportune time for us to harness the potential of business opportunities in Punjab”.

International Seminar on Business Opportunities in Punjab is a remarkable initiative taken by the Government of Punjab to lure the foreign investment into the province by bringing the local and foreign investors at one platform and showcasing the potential projects in various sectors.

The secretaries of concerned departments shared the information pertaining to the initiatives taken by the Government of Punjab to improve the business environment and available projects with the participants. In the end there was a comprehensive question and answer session wherein the head of the departments such as Industries, Housing, Transport, Public Private Partnerships Cell and Punjab Board of Investment and Trade answered the queries and concerns of the local business community. Their major concern was energy shortages and ever increasing cost of production.

The participants appreciated the efforts of Government of Punjab and they were hopeful that the upcoming International Seminar on Business Opportunities in Punjab will start a new era of partnerships and joint ventures between foreign and local companies.
