People should be prepared for coping with natural calamities :Shahbaz Sharif

Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that there is a need of working on modern lines for minimizing losses due to natural calamities so that precious human lives and properties could be saved. He said that Punjab government has modernized Punjab Disaster Management Authority for minimizing losses of life and property and coping with natural calamities. He said that PDMA has been made fully active and vibrant.

In his message on the national day of creating awareness regarding natural calamities, Shahbaz Sharif said it is need of the hour that people should be prepared for coping with any emergency and natural calamities so that the loss of precious human lives and properties should be minimized. He stressed the need of creating awareness among the people in this regard. He said that people can only be helpful along with concerned departments if they are fully aware of the situation and prepared for meeting with natural calamities.

The Chief Minister said that there is also a need of creating awareness among the children regarding natural calamities so that they should also be mentally and physically prepared for coping with natural calamities. He said that research should be promoted regarding disaster management in universities and higher educational institutions. He said that Punjab government took timely steps for protection of life and property of the people during 2010 flood and other natural calamities and provided immediate relief to the affectees.

Shahbaz Sharif said that besides shifting the people to safer places during flood, they were also provided edible items. He said that the process of rehabilitation of flood affectees was completed through best strategy. He said it is the message of this day that the strategy for minimizing destruction and creating awareness about calamities should be fully implemented.
