A trade mission led by Ambassador of Belgium in Pakistan calls on CM Punjab Shahbaz Sharif

Lahore: A trade mission led by Ambassador of Belgium in Pakistan Verheyden Frederic met Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, here today. Matters of mutual interest, promotion of trade and economic relations and prospects of increasing of cooperation in various sectors were discussed in the meeting.

Talking to trade mission of Belgium, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said that best friendly relations exist between Pakistan and Belgium, however, there is a need of enhancing trade cooperation between both the countries and exchange of trade delegations between the two countries should be continued regularly for this purpose.

He said that Belgium is an important member country of European Union and we want to promote trade relations and increase cooperation in various sectors with Belgium.

The Chief Minister said that vast opportunities exist for enhancing cooperation between Punjab and Belgium in information technology, dairy farming, protection from floods, irrigation, energy and infrastructure sectors. He said that we are interested in benefiting from the experience and expertise of Belgium in information technology, dairy farming, protection from floods and irrigation sectors. Shehbaz Sharif said that Punjab government has introduced reforms through information technology for providing best services in the province.

He said that digital monitoring system has been introduced for improving performance of government departments. He said that a conducive atmosphere has been provided to foreign investors for investment in Punjab and facilities are being provided to them on priority basis. He said that production can be increased due to use of modern technology in various sectors.

The Chief Minister said that Punjab government has taken solid steps for promotion of modern technology in the province. He said that promotion of energy and economy are integral part of each other. He said that Punjab government is paying special attention to energy sector. He said that thousands megawatt electricity will be generated through completion of energy projects by the end of 2017. Shehbaz Sharif said that the challenge of terrorism and extremism is being dealt with an iron hand for promotion of investment. He said that political and military leadership of Pakistan are at one page for elimination of terrorism.

Ambassador of Belgium Verheyden Frederic speaking on the occasion said that Belgium wants to promote trade and economic cooperation with Punjab government. He said that every possible step will be taken for enhancing cooperation in various sectors. He said that Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif is working with commitment for the welfare of the people of the province. Provincial Ministers Dr. Ayesha Ghaus Pasha, Khalil Tahir Sandhu, Advisor Dr. Ijaz Nabi, Chairman Planning & Development, Secretary Food and Chairman Punjab Investment Board were also present on the occasion. Heads of companies associated with various sectors were included in the trade mission of Belgium.
