Family members of each martyr would be sent for Umrah: Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry

Dr Tariq Fazal ChaudhryLahore: The toll of Pakistani pilgrims martyred in Mina stampede has reached 40 Pakistani while another 63 are still missing, said Focal Person at PM House Tariq Fazal Chaudhry on Monday.

Addressing a news conference, he said the Ministry of Religious Affairs in collaboration with the Saudi authorities had so far traced out 228 missing Pakistanis and reunited them with their families. Among those still missing, 36 pilgrims performed Hajj under private scheme, whereas rest 27 were from government scheme.

Giving further details, he said 35 injured Pakistani pilgrims were admitted to different hospitals in Makkah and Jeddah, who were also being looked after by a team of Pakistani doctors.

The Focal Person, on behalf of the Prime Minister, announced Rs 500,000 and Rs 200,000 compensation to heirs of each martyr and injured respectively. He also announced that as Hajj operation concludes, two to three family members of each martyr would be sent to Saudi Arabia for Umrah so that they could also visit the burial sites of their dear ones.

He assured that the injured pilgrims would be provided all possible medical treatment on their return to Pakistan by the government,if needed.He told media that the Saudi government has released pictures of all martyred pilgrims and their pictures have also been uploaded at the official website of Pakistan Embassy in Saudi Arabia.

To a question, the focal person said the Saudi Government was yet to decide whether the martyrs would be buried in Saudi Arabia or bodies would be dispatched to their respective homelands.He said the government would keep the families of missing persons updated about the efforts till their recovery.

The focal person said while being in New York, the Prime Minister was personally monitoring the efforts for the Pakistani pilgrims.
