Hajvery University students meet DG Sports BoardLahore: Until a few years ago, Pakistan women were unaware of the game of kabaddi but in a short span of two years, the game of Kabaddi got great acceptance and popularity among the females of the country, these views were expressed by Director General Sports Punjab Usman Anwar while talking to a delegation of Hajvery University Mass Communication Department students at National Hockey Stadium on Friday.

Usman Anwar asked the females of the country to come forward and take part in different sports activities. “Pakistan women kabaddi team will offer an improved performance in the next Kabaddi World Cup tournament after winning bronze medal in Kabaddi World Cup 2014 in India,” he predicted.

The 8-member delegation was comprised of Adil Jameel, Rehan Zahid, M Saad, Sana Ijaz, Saira Javed, Bakhtawar Ameen, Maryam Afzal and Moazzama Murtaza.

The delegation who are preparing a thesis on Pakistan women Kabaddi, expressed its amazement that how Sports Board Punjab inculcate the interest of Kabaddi among the females of Pakistan?

DG SBP Usman Anwar told the university students that every citizen has equal right to feature in sports activities. “We are giving equal importance to male and female sports teams. Our women Kabaddi team is a big proof in this regard,” he added.

Answering a query, DG SBP said: “Normally Kabaddi is considered as a men’s game and there was no trend among our females to play a game like Kabaddi. Our players and coaches did marvelous work and now we can say that Pakistan women Kabaddi team has a respectable status among international women Kabaddi teams”.

Later, the university students praised the meritorious services of DG SBP for promoting sports among youth, women in far flung areas of the province.
