British boxer Amir Khan calls on Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif

Lahore: Pakistani expatriate British boxer Amir Khan met Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, here today and discussed matters regarding promotion of boxing.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that Amir Khan has achieved a prominent place in the field of boxing and won laurels for the country. He said that Pakistani people are happy over successes of Amir Khan in boxing as his family belongs to Pakistan. The Chief Minister said that there is a lot of talent in Pakistan in boxing and other sports, however, there is a need to polish this talent.

He said that government will benefit from the experience and skill of Amir Khan for the promotion of boxing in Punjab as Pakistani boxers need modern training. The Chief Minister said that it is a matter of pleasure that Amir Khan will train Pakistani boxers and assured that maximum cooperation will be extended in this regard. He said that trend of extremism can be checked through promotion of sports and other healthy activities and Punjab government is implementing a comprehensive programme for promoting sports and positive activities in the province.

He said that playgrounds and state-of-the-art sports centers have been set up on the vacant state land in the provincial metropolis and other big cities and towns of the province. Shehbaz Sharif said that modern facilities have been provided in sports centers and gymnasiums and the purpose of these measures is to motivate the youth towards healthy activities and explore their hidden talent.

Boxer Amir Khan while speaking on the occasion said that Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif is making commendable efforts for the promotion of sports in Punjab. He further said that he wants to provide training of international standard to Pakistani boxers. Provincial Minister for Education and Sports Rana Mashhood Ahmad, Secretary Sports and boxer Amir Khan’s father Sajjad Khan and brother Tahir Khan were also present on the occasion.
