Col. (R) Shuja Khanzada reviews flood situation at PDMA office

Minister InteriorLahore: Provincial Minister for Home & Chairman Cabinet Committee on Flood Col. (R) Shuja Khanzada presided over an important meeting at PDMA office which reviewed flood situation in detail. The meeting expressed its satisfaction over the steps taken by the government in this regard.

Provincial Minister for Food Bilal Yasin, IG Punjab Mushtaq Ahmed Sukhera, Secretary Home Azam Suleman, Chief Relief Commissioner Punjab Nadeem Ashraf, Additional Secretary Information Tahir Raza Hamdani, Zonal Director PTA Muhammad Farooq, Director NHA Hafiz Muhammad Tahir, Brid. (R) Arshad Zia, Director Rescue 1122 Maj. (R) Atta Mustafa, GM SUPARCO Dr. Arifa Lodhi and other officers attended the meeting.

The meeting was told that 80 to 100 millimeter rains are expected in Sindh and South Punjab during next four days for which there is a need of high alert. DG PDMA told the meeting that arrangements have been completed for coping with any emergent possible flood situation whereas instructions have been issues to Pakistan Telecommunication Authority for issuing timely warning of high alert through SMS. Similarly, people are also being informed through radio and TV channels.

The meeting was told that 150 relief camps have been set up by PDMA in seven flood-hit districts Mianwali, Bhakkar, Rahim Yar Khan, DG Khan, Muzaffargarh, Layyah and Rajanpur where eatable items are being provided. DG PDMA told that 9100 tents, 8500 mosquito nets, 72 thousand mineral water bottles and cooked meal is being provided to the people through 232 boats. He said that 11 lakh 36 thousand livestock have been vaccinated.

GM SUPARCO Dr. Arifa Lodhi told that meeting that survey of agriculture land destroyed in seven affected districts has been completed and compensation will be provided to the farmers according to this survey. DG Rescue 1122 told the meeting that 21146 marooned people have been shifted to safe places and medical treatment has been provided to 684 people. He told that dead bodies of six persons have been recovered from floodwater.

Bilal Yasin said that all institutions should supplement the efforts of government for providing relief to the affectees.
