The Former Governor condemned the Rs 4 surcharge per unit on electricity tariff. He stated, “The hike in the electricity charges is a shock to the masses. The nation is already bearing the burden of the increase in taxes that was announced in the Federal Budget 2015/16.
The decision of NEPRA to deprive consumers from the reduction in tariff rates which will burden the consumer with an additional Rs: 90 billion per annum – This is a brutal and unfair in nature.
The Former Governor said that, “The current governance in Punjab has proved to be incompetent and unjustifiable in its conduct. In a time when our nation is caught up in the web of inflation and increased load shedding, the government has silently agreed to increase tariff on electricity, taxes and other regressive policies. These incompetent politicians should not be allowed to exercise power in the government.
Policy makers should immediately reverse their decisions otherwise the deprived people of the nation will come out on the streets and launch a nationwide protest.”
