CPSP to enhance the fellowship of doctors to prepare more specialists in anesthesia

Lahore: Advisor to Chief Minister Punjab on Health Kh. Salman Rafique has said that there is acute shortage of anesthesia doctors in government hospitals, for which, steps will be taken to meet this shortage. He said that contact has been made with College of Physicians & Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) to enhance the fellowship of doctors to prepare more specialists in anesthesia department of the college so that doctors joining this field should be encouraged.

He said this while presiding over a meeting on the special direction of Chief Minister Punjab to review the situation regarding anesthesia doctors in the province. Secretary Health Jawad Rafique Malik, Director General Health Dr. Zahid Pervaiz, Prof. Khalid Bashir, Dr. Shahida Khawaja besides other officers of the Health Department attended the meeting.

Kh. Salman Rafique said that besides salary, special package of one lakh to 1.5 lakh rupees per month will be given to specialist doctors at district and tehsil headquarter hospitals under Chief Minister Health Roadmap Programme. He said that due to acute shortage of anesthesia doctors in private sectors, therefore, there is a proposal to give more lucrative stipend to anesthesia specialists at DHQ and THQ. He also directed to immediately formulate special recommendations in this regard.
