ARY program a stigma on a responsible journalism: PU ASA

Andar ki BaatLahore: Punjab University Academic Staff Association’s Executive Council meeting unanimously passed a condemnation resolution against private television channel ARY  for broadcasting a baseless negative, concocted and one-sided program against Punjab University.

The meeting held at undergraduate centre committee room was presided over by President Dr Hasan Mobeen Alam while ASA Secretary Dr Mehboob Hussain, Vice president Arts Dr Abid Chaudhry, Vice President Science Dr Faheem Aftab and all other  executive committee members.

The meeting censured ARY program “Ander ki Baat” anchorpersons Arif Hameed Bhatti, Asad Kharral and Sabir Shakir for trying to project one-side negative information for their vested interest. The meeting also expressed serious concern that how a media channels can broadcast a program without taking university viewpoint, despite request to entertain university viewpoint. “This is against the social, moral, religious norms as well as the media code of ethics. Such type of embedded journalism is a stigma on the face of free media and responsible journalists.”

The meeting demanded the PEMRA, Press Council of Pakistan, Lahore Press Club, APNS, CPNE, Punjab Union of Journalists and other journalistic organizations to take action against such persons who are earning a bad name to the journalists community for their vested interests.

The meeting also formed various committees to conduct research workshops, seminars and other academic activities in the varsity.
