Punjab Government approves appointing 1067 Dengue Workers in Rawalpindi

Dengue WorkersLahore: Stringent measures had been adopted to implement Larvae detection activities in Rawalpindi with joint efforts of District Government and Health Department.

Special responsibilities had been entrusted to all line government departments and organizations for indoor and outdoor larvae surveillance so that any untoward situation could be averted by adopting timely preventive actions.

This was stated by the Provincial Advisor Health Khawaja Salman Rafique while presiding a meeting to review anti dengue activities in Rawalpindi. Commissioner Rawalpindi Division, Zahid Saeed, DCO, Sajad Zafar Dall, Additional Director General Health Dr. Islam Zafar, officers of government departments attended the meeting.

In a detailed presentation Additional DG Health briefed about the responsibilities assigned to different departments with regard to control dengue prior to its irruption as an epidemic. He said that it is obligation of all departments and general public to kept a vigil eye on larvae and make all out effort to control it.

The Provincial Advisor Health informed that Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has given the approval of appointing 1067 Dengue Workers in Rawalpindi and process of appointments will be started very soon. He also inquired about the stocking of necessary medicines and insecticides with health authorities and provision of medical treatment facilities in local teaching hospitals. He said that General Medical Practitioners may also be included in the training programmes and a liaison should be maintained with doctors working in private sector so that they could refer dengue patients to the nearest teaching hospitals.

The Commissioner, Rawalpindi Mr. Zahid Saeed said that the government departments and representatives of allied organizations are well aware about the responsibilities and they had worked very efficiently in the previous anti dengue campaign. He said that departments had been given tasks to work with close coordination to eliminate larvae.

The EDO Health Dr. Khalid Randhawa elaborated Polio Action Plan and highlighted the prevailing situation with regard to larvae identification.
