Pakistan has immense boxing talent :World Boxing Council president Mauricio Sulaiman

World Boxing Council president Mauricio SulaimanLahore: Pakistan has immense boxing talent and it has all the credentials to produce boxing champions in near future, these views were expressed by World Boxing Council (WBC) President Mauricio Sulaiman while talking to media at training and demonstration activity held at Nishtar Park Sports Complex here on Thursday.

Sulaiman said he has visited large number of countries in the world but found Pakistan among the countries enriched with great boxing talent. “Pakistan boys have good physical fitness and techniques as well. They play boxing like Mexican and have plenty of passion for the game of boxing,” he added. “It’s first time we are working here but we intend to go a long journey with Pakistan,” he further said.

Sulaiman also appreciated the efforts of DG SBP Usman Anwar for the growth of sports in Pakistan. “The way SBP, under DG Usman Anwar, is rendering great services for the sports promotion, the prospects are quite bright for Pakistan to produce several champions in various games in near future,” he added.

Earlier, all the participating boxers and coaches were introduced with the guest delegation. WBC  resident also presented a shield to Waqas Akbar, Assistant Director SBP. Around one dozen national boxers including Ali Ahmed, who has represented in Commonwealth and Asian Games in 2014 in 60-kg bantamweight category, demonstrated their professional boxing skills and techniques. WBC President was quite impressed with their grip on the game of boxing. Pakistan’s former Asian Gold medallist and World Championship bronze medallist Noman Karim supervised the practice fights on this occasion.

All the important features of WBC fights and other clips of famous fights were also shown to participants. WBC Vice-President Alberto Guerra, Juan Carlos Sanchez Pelayo and Lucuana Plano were also present on this occasion.
