The intra-party elections process of the Pakistan Awami Tehreek starts

Lahore: The intra-party elections process of the Pakistan Awami Tehreek has started and a 17 member election commission has been formed. In the first phase elections will be held to elect representatives from the provinces, divisions, districts and tehsils. The elections commission will be headed by Sahibzada Faizur Rehman Durrani and Brig (Retd) Iqbal Ahmed Khan, Col (Retd) Raja Fazal Mehdi, Ms Hameeda Naz and Syed Amjad Ali Shah will be the members of the commission. These members have been selected as they do not wish to contest the elections at any stage. The voters include all the party office bearers of the party at all the provincial, district and tehsil levels. All the workers who are contesting are being nominated by these organizations.

At the first level central, provincial, district and tehsil level elections will be held in which over 300 tehsil and 100 district office bearers will be elected.

The chairman of PAT Dr Tahirul Qadri had announced during the Islamabad sit-in that intra-party elections would be held and later it was decided that elections would be held within the party at every level. Later election would also be held to elect office bearers for the Womens’ League, Youth League and Mustafai Students Movement.

According to a PAT media press release the election commission will announce the schedule and dates for polling in a press briefing on Tuesday Feb 10. For this purpose a special desk has been established at the central secretariat office in Model Town which will be operative 24 hours. Intra-party elections will be held in all the provinces of the country.
