Punjab Assembly to pass the new bill for the rights of the domestic servants:PTI

PTI_Punjab_president_Ijaz Ch_is _dr yasmeen rashid_holding_press_conferenceLahore: President Punjab Ijaz Ch, General Secretary Dr Yasmin Rashid and Information secretary Andleeb Abbas severely condemned the negligence of Punjab government and Punjab Assembly. Information Secretary Andleeb Abbas that said two domestic servants were tortured in Lahore and Chief Minister just took notice of it and has set up a bogus committee to investigate the issue.

She demanded that Punjab Assembly should immediately pass the new bill to ensure the rights of the domestic servants, as the current domestic violence bill does not protect these children.

She said children who are domestic servants are in an extremely vulnerable position. She said horrific stories of the torture of young domestic servants crop up from time to time and these children should be not treated as slaves they are part of a family setting.

She urged the Punjab Assembly members to bring specific legislation for domestic workers defining the number of their working hours and determining minimum wage.

In her statement Andleeb Abbas said Punjab Assembly didn’t take up the issue of police torture on school children and blind people. She said assembly played no role in removing the petrol shortage, and it was PTI’s street protest, which pressurized the Government to solve the petrol crisis.

She said the assembly has still not asked the report on Nandipur power project scam. She questioned what the lawmakers are doing in the assembly and it seems they are in the power corridors to enjoy perks and privileges, as they are not interested to take up any public issue.
