Ministers mull to evolve a sanitation policy for residential areas

Lahore: Provincial Minister for Housing Malik Tanvir Aslam Awan and Industry Minister Ch. Muhammad Shafiq chaired a joint meeting for preparing new sanitation policy and its rules and regulations. MPAs, secretaries of Industry, Agriculture, Irrigation, Health, Education and Housing departments and concerned officers attended the meeting.

The meeting decided that such a policy regarding sanitation should be evolved in residential areas as could be called model area. Drainage system should be constructed outside residential areas and sewerage system constructed at the proportion of population. Such healthy policies should be prepared as could provide clean and pleasant atmosphere.Minister Housing & Industries

The meeting also decided that publicity campaign should be launched through public/private partnership for creating awareness among the people so that maximum people could be protected from viral diseases. The meeting proposed that powers and budget should be provided at union council level for monitoring and looking after of new sewerage system.

A committee has been constituted for preparing this policy and its rules and regulations which will present its recommendations in the next meeting. The meeting also proposed that such sanitation system should be evolved as could immediately redress the public complaints. The meeting suggested that a Monitoring Controlling Authority should be set up for looking after new sewerage system.

The meeting also proposed to make the role of TMAs more effective.
