Lahore: Pakistan men kabaddi team cruised into the semifinal of Kabaddi World Cup 2014 after their convincing triumph against Canada on Monday. In-form Pakistan dumped their Canadian opponents by 45-35 in the Indian city of Patiala. Director General Sports Punjab Usman Anwar has congratulated the national kabaddi team for reaching the semifinal stage.
According to information made available here, Pakistan men’s team exhibited commanding game throughout the match. Skipper Shafiq Ahmed Chishti led from the front and made several successful raids for his team. Shafiq thrilled the spectators with elusive jumps and getting away from the clutches of the Canada stoppers. Pak players also exposed the weaknesses in Canada defence.
Chishti was ably supported by his players Akmal Shahzad Dogar, Musharraf Javed Janjua, Irfan Mana and Ali Shan. Top stopper Musharraf and raider Akmal Shahzad Dogar were in great touch and contributed heavily for their team’s crucial victory.
Canada raiders tried their best to break Pakistan’s control on the match but Pakistan stoppers foiled their attempts quite effectively and won the match with a clear margin.
Pak kabaddi team have so far featured in three matches with one match washed out in Kabaddi World Cup and returned successful on all the occasions. The green flag-bearers will play their last league match against Argentina on December 17(tomorrow) at Amritsar.
On the other hand, Pakistan women team have already confirmed a berth in the semifinal stage. According to schedule, semifinals of both men and women teams will be played on December 18 at Dirba, Sangrur.
Director General Sports Punjab Usman Anwar congratulated the Pakistan kabaddi team for their moral boosting victory against strong Canadian team. In his message, DG SBP said Pakistan team demonstrated top class performance in the high profile kabaddi tournament. They really deserved huge appreciation for their magnificent performance on Indian soil. “Our national team lived up to the expectations and really it was an encouraging news for the entire nation. We are quite hopeful that our team will maintain their level of performance in the next key encounters of the grand event,” he added.
DG SBP said that Pakistan players regained their form in time and hopefully they will face their opponents with great amount of confidence in the semifinal and then in the title clash.
