Raja Jahangir Akhtar ends his hunger strike

Islamabad:  Veteran social activist Raja Jahangir Akhtar ended his hunger strike on Thursday on assurance of PML-N Senator Syed Zafar Ali Shah.

Akhtar started token hunger strike twelve days back and switched to hunger strike unto death seven days ago to press for amendment in the article 161 of the constitution to facilitate construction of dams in country. His hunger strike caught attention of civil society and many political and trade leader visited his hunger strike camp expressing solidarity with him

Senator Zafar Ali Shah visited his hunger strike camp for the second time on Thursday asking him to end the hunger strike as he will try best to get his demand fulfilled. After offering juice to Akhtar, the Senator said that two-third majority is needed to amend the article 161 of the constitution.He added that PML-N will try amendment with the help of PPP, adding that no patriotic political party would raise any objection.

Jahangir Akhtar said that the amendment would bring a green revolution in Pakistan transforming lives of people of Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Pothihar as they would start getting profit from hydel power generation.He said that he would not rest until the amendment is approved.
