Police will have to change its behavior with the common man: CM Punjab

CM PUNJABis chairing law & order meetingLahore: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that provision of prompt justice to the people and protection of life and property of citizens is the prime responsibility of police and it should perform its duties efficiently and honestly. He said that police will have to change its behavior with the common man and police stations should be a source of provision of justice to the citizens. He said that funds will continue to be provided to police for improving law and order and eradication of crimes, however, police will have to give results.

He was presiding over a high level meeting here today which considered various proposals for reformation of police system, improvement of working conditions at police stations and provision of prompt justice to the citizens. Addressing the meeting, the Chief Minister said that modern information technology can help improve the system of provision of justice to citizens in police stations and computerized record management system is essential for registration of complaints. He said that citizens’ feedback communication system can play an important role in providing justice to the common man.

He directed an effective system of monitoring should be devised besides measures should be taken for improving efficiency of police. He said that special attention will have to be paid for capacity-building of police force for harmonizing it with the demands of the modern age. Shahbaz Sharif said that police should perform its duties with commitment and efficiency for ensuring law and order and elimination of crimes and no effort should be spared for redressing the grievances of citizens. He said that confidence of the people in police can be restored through change in Thana culture and in addition to basic reforms, all out measures should be taken for this purpose.

The Chief Minister said that Punjab Forensic Science Lab is playing an important role in the speedy investigation of cases and provision of justice to the citizens, therefore, it has been decided to set up satellite labs of forensic science laboratory in nine divisions of the province. He said that setting up of forensic science labs at divisional level will help in conducting tests of evidence in the concerned divisions. He directed that cabinet committee should submit practicable recommendations for reforms in police system and improvement in the working of police stations.

CCPO Lahore gave a briefing on police stations, provision of justice to the common man and curbing of crimes. Provincial Ministers Col. (Retd.) Shuja Khanzada, Bilal Yasin, Spokesman Punjab Government Zaeem Hussain Qadri, Inspector General Police, Secretary Home, CCPO Lahore and concerned officers were present on the occasion.
