Practice matches best way to assess players’ form & fitness: Madeeha

Lahore: Pakistan ‘A’ Women Kabaddi XI trounced Pakistan ‘B’ in a nail-biting encounter by a narrow difference of 46-42 at the Punjab Stadium here on Thursday.

The practice match was contested among the probables of national women kabaddi training camp. The camp is being organised for the preparation of Kabaddi World Cup 2014 on the directives of Director General Sports Punjab Usman Anwar.

The Kabaddi World Cup will be played early next month in India. It may be recalled here that Pakistan women kabaddi team had reached the semifinal stage of their inaugural appearance in the Women Kabaddi World Cup 2013 in India.

National women team skipper Madeeha Latif gathered the most number of points in the match. According SBP spokesperson, the practice match was arranged to assess the match fitness and form of national women kabaddi players.

Besides Madeeha, Martha, Nuzhat Perveen and Neelum Riaz also played good Kabaddi for the winning team. Twinkle Suhail, Ammara, Razia Sultana, Sehrish and Umme Zohra offered excellent performance for the losing side.

Later, talking to media, skipper Madeeha said that the performance of all the players are being evaluated through practice matches because it’s the best method to gauge the form and fitness of the players. “All of our players are in good shape for the mega event and we are ready to face any kind of challenge in the Kabaddi World Cup,” she vowed.

On the other hand, national men’s Kabaddi probables also participated in camp training for the preparation of 5th edition of Kabaddi World Cup.
