Bilal Yasin presides over meeting of Cabinet Price Control CommitteeLahore: Provincial Minister for Food & Chairman Cabinet Price Control Committee Bilal Yasin has said that concerned institutions should be ready to ensure effective implementation on further possible decrease in prices of petroleum products so that benefits of government decision could be provided to the people. He said that government is actively working for the welfare of the people and taking vigorous steps for improving the living standard of common man.

He said this while presiding over a meeting regarding decrease in transport fares at Committee Room of Civil Secretariat today. Additional Chief Secretary, Secretaries of Transport, Industry, Agriculture, Livestock, Information, Food, and Health departments attended the meeting while all divisional commissioners were online. Commissioner Rawalpindi told the meeting that instructions of government regarding petrol and transport are being fully implemented and fare is being received from passengers according to notification. Commissioner Faisalabad told that irregularities were found in few routes of Faisalabad division, upon which, fine of Rs. 11 lakh was imposed to 600 vehicles whereas 40 owners were arrested. The meeting was told that stickers of new fares have been pasted in buses and wagons and panaflex and banners have been displaced on bus stands.

Later, Food Minister presided over a meeting of price control committee. Secretary Industry told that prices of eatable items have reduced considerably due to decrease in prices of petroleum products. He said that price of rice has reduced Rs. 40 per kg. He further told that pulses are being imported for decreasing their prices. Director Food told the meeting that crushing season has been started in 19 mills, out of 44 sugar mills, whereas crushing in remaining mills will start from December 1. He told that eight lakh metric ton sugar is available in stock and there is no possibility of increase in price of sugar in future. He said that sugar is being sold in South Punjab at Rs. 52 per kg while in central and upper Punjab at Rs. 54 per kg.

Bilal Yasin directed Commissioner Lahore to take immediate action against profiteers and selling poultry at less weight. Similarly, operation should be accelerated against tandoor owners, he added.
