Government has fixed sugarcane prices 180 rupees per 40KG:Dr. Farrukh Javed

Lahore: The Punjab Government has increased agricultural research allocations upto 200% to develop new crop varieties and agricultural technology to increase agricultural production in the country.

This was stated by   Dr. Farrukh Javed, Minister for Agriculture Punjab while addressing at “Wheat Sowing Inauguration event” at Ayub Agricultural Research Institute Faisalabad.

The minister informed that last year 19.5 million tons production of wheat was achieved and a progressive grower obtained 98 maunds wheat production per acre in wheat production competition. It is record production in the country, the minister added. Highlighting the various government measures for the benefit of the farmers the minister stated that despite lower wheat prices in international market the government has fixed wheat support price Rs. 1300/- per 40 KG to ensure equitable returns for the farming community. He said that the government has fixed prices of urea fertilizer at Rs. 1765/- per bag so that farmers can obtain fertilizers at reasonable prices.

He informed that government is monitoring fertilizer rates on daily basis and taking strict actions against the persons indulging in black marketing and profiteering. The minister advised the growers to complete wheat sowing in first three weeks of November. He told that the varieties developed at Ayub Agricultural Research Institute Faisalabad possess tremendous potential of higher yields so the farmers are required to grow varieties approved by agriculture department.

Talking to media men the minister informed that the government has fixed sugarcane prices 180 rupees per maund and through local administration the sugar mill owners have made duty bound to make cane payment within a week time he added.
