Shahbaz Sharif chairs meeting to improve the conditions of Railways station in Punjab

CM Punjab shahbaz sharifLahore: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif presided over a high level meeting at Islamabad today which discussed the matters regarding reconstruction of old railway stations, their up-gradation and promotion of trade activities near these stations. Federal Minister for Railways Kh. Saad Rafiq gave a briefing.

Addressing the meeting, Shahbaz Sharif said that communication means are essential for economic development. He said that due to reconstruction of old railway stations in Punjab, best facilities will be available to the passengers. He said that trade activities will be promoted due to up-gradation of railway stations.

The Chief Minister said that railway department should consider construction of cricket, hockey and other sports grounds for the youth at its land near cities. He said that welfare of the people and promotion of economy is top priority of the government and all possible resources are being utilized for this purpose. A committee headed by Chief Secretary was also constituted for considering promotion of commercial activities near railway stations, preparation of a feasibility report for construction of sports grounds and other matters. The committee will present its report in a month in this regard.

Federal Railway Minister Kh. Saad Rafiq while giving a briefing sought cooperation of Punjab government in construction of infrastructure for promotion of trade activities near railway stations. He said that Punjab province will get revenue through promotion of trade activities near railway stations.

Chief Architect NESPAK gave a detailed briefing about the project of reconstruction of railway stations of Bahawalpur, Sahiwal, Okara, Narowal, Nankana Sahib, Gujranwala and Hassan Abdal. Federal Minister for Planning & Development Ahsan Iqbal, Chief Secretary, Federal Secretary for Railways, Secretary Railway Board and other concerned officials attended the meeting.
