Lahore: Advisor on Health Kh. Salman Rafiq has complained that Pervaiz Elahi does not lose any opportunity of political point scoring. He said that WHO and UNICEF also acknowledged the effective steps of Punjab government against polio. He said that only three polio cases have been reported out of one crore and 75 lakh children aging less than five years in Punjab.
Commenting upon the statement of Pervaiz Elahi, Salman Rafiq said that Pervaiz Elahi is suffering from N-League phobia and levels allegations without knowing facts. He said that only three polio cases have been reported in Punjab out of 230 children suffering from polio all over the country. He said that there is similarity of polio virus in a child of Bhakkar with the polio virus of Dera Ismail Khan.
Similarly, there is similarity of polio virus in a girl of Chakwal with the polio virus of Gudap, Karachi whereas polio virus in a child of Sheikhupura has the similarity of Lahore polio virus. Kh. Salman Rafiq told it is suspected that the said cases have been reported due to free travelling of affectees from terrorism affected areas, however, due to best policy of Punjab government, the number of children suffering from polio in the province is negligible. He said that Punjab government is determined to make the province polio free.
Kh. Salman Rafiq said that Chief Minister Punjab personally monitors the vaccination campaign against polio, that is why, the vaccination campaign against polio is proving very effective and successful in Punjab than other provinces.
